Going BIG With Tara Hamilton

The Competition Gets Tough When You're On Top And Tara Hamilton Is On Top Of The World.

Currently ranked #1 in the standings, Tara has had a remarkable Wakeboarding career earning the respect and admiration from many of her peers and fans.
Not only is she a world class athlete who has designed her own Wakeboard for smaller adults and teens, she is also getting ready for her upcoming college career.
Tara shares some of her thoughts with Aquaskier on everything from school to sponsors.

AQUASKIER

What's been going on with you lately?

TARA

This is my fourth season, and I have been concentrating on graduating and getting ready for college. So my thoughts are not Always on boarding - like normally. Plus I am at a level in wake

Tara Hamilton

boarding that each new trick means harder falls - I am sore a lot more! With the new format it is even tougher to practice a run & kicker and jump stuff but I still want to do good.

The other girls are really making it hard for me to keep my #1 spot but that's good for the sport and that is what competition is all about. They are still pretty new at all this traveling stuff so it hasn't worn in yet.  I certainly know how Dana, Shapiro, Murray and the guys who have been at it a while feel.

But over all it's all good and I have Great sponsors, I personally think I have the best set of sponsors in the industry.

That's my personal opinion. But when you have good companies and fun people it helps a lot. Also

the fans are great, I love all the kids that get so excited to watch us and meet us. That part is really fun. So wish me well on ending # one this year
also!

AQUASKIER

Congratulations on a great season so far!

TARA
Thank you

AQUASKIER

How does it feel to be number one in the standings this year?

TARA

Good but it is tougher to stay #1

AQUASKIER

How did you become interested in Wakeboarding?

TARA

My friends

AQUASKIER

What do you like most about wakeboarding?

TARA

Going big on tricks and landing new tricks.

AQUASKIER

Where do you train?

TARA

Lake Osborne in Lantana, Florida

AQUASKIER

Who do you train with?

TARA

Ryan Wynne, Evan Kennedy and Chet Raley

AQUASKIER

Has it been hard to balance your Wakeboarding career with your school work?

TARA

Sorta, but I have been home schooled for my 11th and 12th grades - next year will be harder because I start college.

AQUASKIER

Who are your sponsors?

TARA

Mountain Dew, Hyperlite, Vans, Jet Pilot, MasterCraft, Oakley and Freestyle.

AQUASKIER

What kind of a board do you ride?

TARA

Hyperlite Mikala (I designed it!)

AQUASKIER

How would you describe a Mikala?

TARA

I got the graphics from two different surf boards I liked and combined them. The actual design is for smaller adults or teens that like to cut to the wake and land tricks flat then go right to the edging again.

I would say it is for intermediate riders, but I have

had some beginners really like it because they learn this board and don't have to switch once their riding advances. It is similar to the Murray of "98 with modifications!

AQUASKIER

What line length and speed do you prefer?

TARA

137cm / 21mph

AQUASKIER

Do you have any favorite tricks you like to perform?

TARA

Tantrum to Fakey

AQUASKIER

Do you ever get nervous before a tournament?

TARA

Sometimes, depends on conditions and the tournament

AQUASKIER

What hobbies do you enjoy when you're not Wakeboarding?

TARA

Surfing, Snorkeling, Golf, watching Ice Hockey

AQUASKIER

What are your goals for the 2000 season?

TARA

Do my best, have fun, end in the # 1 spot
